Threading: For Hair Removal

Threading is one of the various methods available in the market for hair removal. It is called khite in Arabic and fatlah in Egyptian. This method can be used to remove hair from the root and is mainly used for removing hair from the eyebrow area. In this method the practitioner holds one end of a cotton thread in his teeth and the other in his left hand. The middle part is looped through the index and right hand's middle finger. Then the practitioner uses this loop to lock in a series of unwanted hairs and yank them from the root itself. Nowadays modern devices are there that can hold the thread during the process.

One of the advantages of threading is that it is inexpensive, accurate, neat, and fast. This method is better than tweezing and plucking as it is less painful as compared to them. The results obtained from threading lasts for two to four weeks. You cannot do this technique yourself and require a professional to do so.

Some of the side effects associated with it include folliculitis, which is a bacterial infection of hair follicles that can cause reddening or puffiness of the skin accompanied with skin pigmentation. Threading can also result in pain and itching. This method can be used for sensitive skin. It takes less time and can be done in just 15 minutes.

As there is no chemical involved in it, it is considered to be a safe method. One of the disadvantages of this method is that it can be performed on flat surfaces only and it is difficult to be done on body parts that are not flat such as bikini line and the knee.

It is an ancient method but is still in use in Middle East, India, and Pakistan This method is used to give clean lines and good shape to the eyebrows. It can also be used to remove hair from the upper lip and other facial areas. It has been seen that waxing or other depilatory creams are accompanied with irritation and skin rashes but this is not the case in threading. This method of hair removal does not strip off the top layer of dead skin like waxing and is less painful. It is a temporary method and the process needs to be repeated after a period of time.
